I ALMOST Got SCAMMED

The scammer had my full name, phone number, and NRIC number

I received a call from “YouTrip” +65 9139 4721 on 28 July 2026. The caller named Rizuan (obviously fake) said that I had signed up for a YouTrip travel insurance. He said that the promo expires on 29 July and that if I didn’t cancel it immediately, they will start charging me for the premium.

I told him that I had not signed up for any insurance. He said that I may have pressed a link by mistake. I asked to see the policy. I was transferred to Joshua Chua from the “Follow Up Dept” who asked me to WhatsApp +65 8130 9358 with a policy number You1883199 they provided me with in order to retrieve my policy information. 

I received a JPG image (official documents are normally in PDF, not image). The scary part is, the document (see above) had my full name, phone number, and NRIC number. The premium is $500 per month (whoever pays a monthly subscription for a TRAVEL insurance for TWO YEARS?!) He said that there’s a cash back of $3,600. 

I said I signed no such policy. I was transferred to the manager or supervisor named Alex Ong. He sounded like a Chinese person. He spoke terrible English. He said maybe someone had got my details and was trying to scam me. 

I told him, “how do I know YOU are not the scammer? I want to verify who you are.” I told him I will call YouTrip. He insisted “I already told you I’m from YouTrip.” He started to say “What do you mean I’m a scammer?” He went on to argue with me because I kept insisting he is a scammer.

The whole call took about 10 mins. Maybe I shouldn’t have engaged him for so long – I was still thinking on my feet and trying to figure out what to do about the call. Customer Service Staff are trained to stay calm and will not argue with clients like that. 

I told him I would report him and hung up.

I called YouTrip to make a report. They confirmed that no transaction had taken place. They also said I was not the only one reporting about a travel insurance scam. I also submitted a report to ScamShield.

I also submitted a police report. It seems the only way you can do it is via the SPF Lodge Police Report website. The site is not user friendly.

There has been a rise in scam attempts impersonating YouTrip, particularly involving insurance-related calls. If you receive such calls or messages, do not engage or provide any information.

The only travel insurance we offer is a single-trip, one-time purchase travel insurance for one person, which is underwritten by HL Assurance Pte. Ltd., and it can only be purchased and paid for directly within the YouTrip app.

As a reminder:

• YouTrip will never call you to request any form of payment including payment for insurance over the phone
• All wallet top-ups can only be initiated by you within the YouTrip app
• You should never share your personal information, passwords, or OTPs with anyone, even if they claim to be from YouTrip
