It wasn’t the first nor the last
There are many reasons why people write. There was a time I had a big argument with God about writing. My boss wanted me to write for the organisation. I didn’t want to! I thought, “I’m young. Writing is for when I am old.” I wanted to be out there where the action was.
Then God told me, “It’s not about your boss and you. It’s about you and ME.”
With a big sulk I said, “OK God, if it’s you, you have to prove it to me.”
A few days later, I found my kindergarten report book. My principal wrote this about me: “Loves written expression.” I was five and a half years old!
I lost the argument and I’m ashamed to say took on the communications director position my boss assigned me reluctantly. What an exhilarating 12-year journey it turned out to be. The skills I honed eventually led me to pioneer digital storytelling in Singapore.
I still tell God that I’m sorry for arguing with him because the path he took me was what I didn’t know I wanted.
Here’s the first digital story (video) I created. It tells about my journey writing “How the Moken Sea Gypsies Got Their Book – the story of Naw Say Bay as told to Angeline Koh”. It was one of many interesting projects I got to do down the path I didn’t want.
Enjoy!
Next week, I’ll share 5 ideas for things you can write about.
