A mini series about the Bible for newbies
Introduction to the Bible Episode 1
I spend many hours in a week studying the Bible. The Bible is the anchor of my life giving me comfort, hope and direction. Are you curious about the Bible? Or maybe you want to examine the Bible but don’t know where to start. This series is for you.
Their hearts crippled with fear as they watched their Master tortured then crucified to death on the cross. They had hoped he would save them from the authoritarian tyranny that suppressed them. Fear stricken and hopes dashed, the disciples went into hiding. Everyone in town was talking about it.
Two of Jesus’ disciples were on their way to Emmaus when Jesus came alongside and walked with them. They had seen Jesus die. They didn’t know he had come back to life. Their eyes were kept from recognising him.
As he walked with them, Jesus “beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself.” Of the conversation, the disciples said, โDid not our hearts burn within us while he talked to us on the road, while he opened to us the Scriptures?โ (Luke 24:27,32)
Scriptures, the Bible, is made up of a library of 66 books written by about 40 authors from different walks of life over a span of about 1,500 years, on three continents, and in three languages. It is an ancient book but it is living and life-giving. When we take time to understand its truths, it will come alive in our hearts like it did the two disciples who met Jesus on their way to Emmaus.
The precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart
The psalmist said, “the Law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul.” (Psalm 19:7a) From beginning to end, a story unfolds chapter by chapter, the entire focus of the Scriptures is Jesus.
