Let’s get back to my Introduction to the Bible for Newbies series. I’ve gone meandering long enough.
During Jesus’ time, the New Testament had not yet been written. He only had the Old Testament. The central focus of all Scripture is Jesus. How did Jesus himself view Scripture?
In doing my research to put together today’s post, I found others who have already written extensively on today’s topic. I don’t need to reinvent the wheel.
They are all too good but too much. I’ve summarised what Jesus taught about the Scripture to 10 points (OK, there are sub points!) I didn’t quote the Bible verses as I thought it would clearer if you just read the headings. Links to the verses are in the source below.

- It is imperishable
- It is infallible
- It is inerrant
- It is historically reliable
- It is scientifically accurate
- It has ultimate supremacy
- The Old Testament (OT) is historically accurate
- Jesus cited 14 different OT books
- He also confirmed that the people mentioned in the OT truly exist They are not mythical characters
- He also believed that the stories of the OT were factual
- He confirmed some of the most controversial stories found in the OT
- The Bible is a unity
- Jesus said the Scripture must be fulfilled
- He said God’s word is true
- He completely trusted the teachings of the OT
- He submitted to the authority of the OT
- The Scriptures are sufficient for salvation
- Jesus used Scripture to defend his actions

- The central focus of the Scripture from start to end is Jesus
