The global calm and stability we once knew will not return anytime soon…
Prime Minister Lawrence Wong’s addressed Singaporeans on April 4 warning us of the implications of US tariffs for Singapore.
“…We risk being squeezed out, marginalised and left behind… The likelihood of a global trade war is growing… Singapore will take a heavy hit than others because of our heavy reliance on trade… Trade wars escalated into armed conflict, and eventually the Second World War…
We must be clear eyed about the dangers that are building up in the world… We must brace ourselves for more shocks to come… The global calm and stability we once knew will not return anytime soon…” – Prime Minister Lawrence Wong
PM Wong’s sobering message should not take us by surprise. Unless we have been sleeping, we know that it is not possible for this tiny Little Red Dot to be spared from what is shaking globally. The stakes are higher than just “things are getting expensive.”
As God’s children, are we fearful? Anxious? Paralysed?
I am not closing my eyes to the realities around me. I do what I can to manage our lives: food, finances, etc. Thankful we have food on the table and a roof over our heads. Moving forward, I brace myself embraced by the care of our Father in heaven:
25 “For this reason I say to you, do not be worried about your life, as to what you will eat or what you will drink; nor for your body, as to what you will put on. Is life not more than food, and the body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds of the sky, that they do not sow, nor reap, nor gather crops into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more important than they?
32 For the Gentiles (those who do not know God) eagerly seek all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.
Moving forward, I know my priorities.
But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be provided to you.
– Jesus, Matthew 6:32-33
