Analogue native in a digital world
Digital Storytelling is better experienced than explained.
I live in a digital world. Digital looks like this:
Digital is reel – non-physical – like photos, video clips, voice recordings, short messaging, tweets. Like Facebook and Instagram. The backend technology relies on microchips, circuit boards, and coding binary numbers 0s and 1s. I don’t have to understand it to use it. It’s reel (virtual) and not real.
I was born, however, in an analogue world. Analogue looks like this:
Analogue is real – it’s physical – like actual photographs on paper, sounds stored on tape or disc. It operates with mechanisms. Parts move. We physically see, touch, taste, smell, feel and experience. Analogue is real events happening in real time.
We can capture a real experience into a reel (virtual) experience. Virtual (digital) reality can trigger real physical responses and emotions. Like this:
Videos are useful for communicating bite-sized information and instructions.
I am both an analogue native and a digital immigrant. I straddle between two worlds and milk the best of both worlds.
