Step one: HAVE FUN!
Personal fitness trainers are helpful but they cost about S$100-150 an hour (it cost less if you take a package). $100 is way too much to pay if you’re already paying for a hefty gym membership. I tried the free public gyms but the hassle it takes to get there just gave me more excuses not to go.
My package included five sessions with a trainer. He made me discover muscles I never knew I had. That felt good! Now I know what a real workout should feel like.
My body is just not ready for anything adventurous. The first step for beginners is FUN and FEELING GOOD. My priority right now is “MOVE!” YouTube video tutorials (if you have time to search for them) give such motivational introductions for beginners like me.
I watched a number of Joanna Soh’s videos. Asians tend to shy away from speaking in front of a camera. So I found her a very refreshing face in a sea of western trainers.
